I had to experiment with exposure settings to get these shots of the sparks flying as Jesse cut rebar at Famous Mo’s this morning. I wanted a dark exposure to show the sparks but I discovered it’s not easy figuring out where to focus the lens to capture the sparks at their sharpest and brightest. In the end, I had to adjust the settings in Lightroom, increasing contrast, clarity, and highlights to give the effect I wanted. I had the lens wide open and a very high shutter speed for the first shot; I stopped the lens down to f/16, shutter speed 1/160 for the other two.
