I recently acquired an etched gold bracelet with an inscription that my paternal grandfather, Bob, gave to my paternal grandmother, Hope. She was born in 1883 and died in 1980 and Grandpa was born about 1880 and died in 1940 so I never knew him. I have no idea when Grandpa gave Grandma the bracelet. I decided to photograph it because a recent Flickr challenge was “hope” and the bracelet, with its elegantly hand-etched inscription, seemed to fit the bill.
I used natural window light and the gold reflected all sorts of colors including the trees outside and the sweater I was wearing. I thought a plain black velvet background wasn’t interesting enough so I set it on a vintage mesh gold colored bag. I used the macro lens set to f/36 and stacked 10 shots to bring the entire bracelet into focus.
