2021—the Tree

The tree at the Artist’s Point overlook at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone has stood there for a long time. I recently discovered a photograph that I took 55 years ago on my first visit to Yellowstone National Park in the summer of 1966 when I worked at Jackson Lake Lodge in the Grand Tetons. A couple of friends and I hitchhiked through Yellowstone on our day off, stopping at Artist’s Point. In the faded and yellowed Kodak Instamatic print, the tree is barely visible. On this visit, I wanted to feature the tree which stands out from the snowy canyon walls because of the steam from the hot springs below.
