Another turtle?? Saturday was my first day back after being gone for a week and the sun was just rising above the horizon, dissipating the tule fog the clung to the water’s surface when I got to the Salt Pond. I spotted a Coyote that crossed the pond and disappeared into the tall reeds. In a couple of minutes, a Coyote (not sure if it was the same one) emerged from the reeds clenching a turtle in its jaws. I found that to be fascinating as this is the second turtle I’d seen being consumed in just a couple of days. Just this past Thursday I watched a Snail Kite in Florida trying to consume a small turtle and now, this Coyote was carrying its prize off. Turtles seem to make hard work for whichever critter decides to take one on. I wonder if it’s worth the effort?
